“TOWARDS A NEW WORLD”

The teams, the towns and their Mayors: together to celebrate 40 years of Interamnia World Cup
With this slogan introducing the celebrations for the fortieth Interamnia World Cup in the year 2012, we would like to give way to a new expression of the event, based on two principle elements: a more flexible organizational structure, capable of increasing the value of experiences and facing all events, as well as creating a greater integration on the territory.
It is our intention to underline the centrality of Teramo for the promotion of handball, spreading the peculiar aspects of the Interamnia World Cup to the rest of the provinces in the territory as well, involving even the whole region of Abruzzo and the whole world.
We also want to involve mayors and citizens in a virtual network, capable of opening up towards the world and welcoming it between our mountains and our sea. We also want to underline this commitment, strengthening communication and development.
We want to discover and share new common interests, open possibilities for new international relationships, place the squares, the streets and everyday life at the centre of a world that, in our opinion, is already changing but rich of history and traditions.
During its 40 years, the Interamnia World Cup has gained a substantial heritage made up of the creation of international relationships, of high ideals of peace, of equality and brotherhood transmitted through sport, of attracting an infinite number of young people coming from every corner of the world, of establishing cultural exchanges.
A real movement of young people, the citizens of the World, has been established in the city of Teramo. It has gone beyond the urban boarders, such as a window open wide over a global context which is historical, political, social and cultural in continuous evolution.
The cities, together with the relevant Mayors and the teams and young athletes, will be the real protagonists of a grand characterization of the event and of its deepest meanings.
The organizers relying on the awareness and strong collaboration of the most valued club managers want ensure the participation of at least 450 teams from 100 countries on 5 continents, the involvement of the entire region of Abruzzo and other its three centers: Chieti, L’Aquila and Pescara for the competitions of the tournament, the representation of at least 200 cities and the presence of at least 100 Mayors, all together in a unique hug,
In this general framework in collaboration with the authorities and the prestigious Italian institutions who grant us  their patronage, such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Youth, the Ministry of Tourism, the Italian Committee for UNICEF , and the Italian National Olympic Committee, we have created the premises  for:

• participation in the event of the Mayor of Hiroshima, President of the World “Mayors for Peace” and of the Nobel Prize for Peace in 2011
• Initiative to raising awareness for the participation of the President of the Republic, in Rome or Teramo, during the celebration of the fortieth Interamnia World Cup.
• Reception of foreign delegations and of the Mayors of the cities of the World in the capital of Italy, in Campidoglio (State Capitol), at the presence of the Mayor of Rome and the creation of a forum on matters concerning racism, cooperation and the right of citizenship, through a subscription to a protocol committing the public representatives of various countries to actions in favour of said ideals.
• At the end of the institutional solemnity, the City of Rome, proposed to receive the Olympics in 2020, will receive all the participants in the 40th Interamnia World Cup in an important moment of sport and solidarity: the symbolic match between the traditional “Teams for Peace”, made up of athletes coming from countries who are enemies, in war or in a moment of post-war reconstruction, but still divided by strong diplomatic tensions.

In order to realize a project so important and ambitious we need the collaboration and cooperation of everyone, especially those who have believed and believe in the values ​​of sport, social and human expressed so far by Interamnia World Cup (sports clubs and associations, embassies, ministries , university studies, associations and Italian and foreign institutions) and who want to commit to contribute to the creation of a new world!
